Approval received for AMCA, India's fifth generation fighter jet

Hello and I welcome you all at Global affairs Recently, there have been some important developments related to India's defence, which is very important in terms of the threat to India's front war as India is facing aggression in its north. The Cabinet Committee on Security on 7 March 2024 has approved the creation of Advanced Medium Combat  Approved the Project for Design and Development of Aircraft (AMCA), which will be a fifth-generation, medium-weight stealth fighter jet.  It is being developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) under a project worth about Rs 15,000 crore.  DRDO's Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) will develop the stealth jet and related technology in partnership with various private and public sector agencies.

Better late than never, India has taken this very important step. Now it will be very interesting to see how quickly this work is done and it is expected that by 2030 we will be able to fly our first fifth generation fighter jet.  Will be ready and this is not only important for India's defense but it will include India in an elite club in which only three countries of the world are currently included which are America, China and Russia who have made their fifth generation fighter jet ready.  And it is included in its air service fleet and two countries which have started this work before India and have taken lead in making 5th generation fighter jet are South Korea and Turkey which are ahead of India in this matter.

Why was India so late?

The action plan related to the creation of AMCA has been under consideration since 2007 but due to some reason or the other it kept getting postponed. After that, India launched its joint mission with Russia under which it will develop the fifth generation fighter jet, but  India and Russia could not agree on technology transfer due to which India walked out of this joint venture in April 2018 and after that Russia manufactured SU57 5th generation fighter jet, after which Russia also offered India to buy it.  But points like technology transfer were not included in it and similarly, by 2024, India's fifth generation fighter jet manufacturing program (AMCA) has been approved by the Cabinet.

What are 5th generation fighter jets?

The fifth generation fighter aircraft has four main characteristics.  First of all, it's stealth.  This means it is nearly invisible to enemy radar, which is a function of the jet's radar cross section.  And the weapons they have are inside its body and are not visible, due to which it is very difficult to sense them on radar and judge what weapons they have. Secondly, it can 'super cruise',  Or can fly faster than the speed of sound without using fuel-consuming afterburners on its engines.  Third, it has advanced avionics and sensors with network centric operations.  Fourth, it is upgraded to carry out long-range missions

Best 5th Generation Fighter Jets in the World

If we talk about the world's best fifth generation fighter jets, then it is believed that America's F-22 Raptor is the world's best fifth generation fighter jet,

but America is currently giving more priority to the 5th generation fighter jet in its service.  f-35 At present America's focus is on this.

because the production of f-22 Raptor has been stopped for the last many years and if we talk about Russia, its Su 57 is a 5th generation fighter jet which recently many reporters have claimed that Russia is involved in Ukraine war.

Has also been used and if we talk about China, its J 20 A Mighty Dragon is a 5th generation fighter jet whose fleet of more than 200 was included in the Chinese Air Force by 2022 and currently it is believed that China has around 250.  j 20 A Mighty Dragon fighter jets.

In February this year, Turkey's next-generation fighter aircraft, known as TF KAAN, made its maiden flight.  Turkish Aerospace Industries claims that KAAN is a fifth generation multirole combat aircraft.

Why is AMCA necessary for India?

This project is very important for India. The most important reason for this is China. As we all know that China is an aggressive country and as India's first CDS Vipin Rawat had said that the biggest threat to India's security is China.  And keeping this in mind, this program becomes very important for India because China has a very large fleet of fighter jets of this generation and the most important thing is that it manufactures its fighter jets itself.  Due to which it has no dearth of 5th generation fighter jet and if we talk about France's Rafale aircraft then there is no doubt that it is an excellent fighter jet but the biggest problem is that we import it.  And at present, India has only 36 Rafale fighter jets .

and China's number of J20A Mighty Dragon is said to be 250. This is a matter of great concern for India, that is why AMCA is very important for India's defense.
