 Hello and I welcome you all at Global affairs. recently  released 2023/24 Human Development Report (HDR) highlights countries and regions titled, “Breaking the Gridlock: Reimagining Cooperation in a Polarized World.”

India performs incredibly in this report After a decline in the Human Development Index (HDI) value in 2021 and a flat trend over the past few years, India's HDI value has increased to 0.644 in 2022, placing the country at 193.  Is ranked 134th.



The report clearly shows that in 2022, India saw improvement in all HDI indicators – life expectancy, education and per capita gross national income (GNI).  Life expectancy increased from 67.2 to 67.7 years, expected years of schooling reached 12.6, average years of schooling increased to 6.57, and GNI per capita increased from $6,542 to $6,951.  India has shown progress in reducing gender inequality.  India's GII value of 0.437 is better than the global and South Asian average.  All the above criteria improve the ranking of a nation in HDI.



Moreover, India is the fastest growing economy due to which there has been continuous improvement in the living standard and purchasing power of the people in India since 2014 and all these parameters play a very important role in improving India's ranking in the Human Development Index.  Are.

It has also been told in the report that the target of reaching a very good level of Human Development Index was 2030 but due to the spread of Covid pandemic in 2019, this target now seems a bit distant but is achievable.But for now, with an HDI value of 0.644, the latest HDR places India in the medium human development category.

In this index, Pakistan's rank is 161, China's rank is 75 and Sri Lanka's rank is 78. Switzerland, Norway and Iceland are at one, two and three ranks respectively, while Bangladesh is at 129 rank. America's rank is 21. Surprisingly, countries like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, whose  The economy is very poor and many cases of racism have also come to light in Bangladesh, yet their ranking is better than India.
