India beat Ireland by 8 wickets. India started their campaign with a win.

 The Indian men's cricket team started their ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a resounding eight-wicket win over Ireland in their first Group A match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday.

The Ireland team was bundled out for 96 runs thanks to the brilliant bowling of the Indian fast bowlers. Despite Virat Kohli's early dismissal, India easily achieved the target thanks to Rohit Sharma's half-century and Rishabh Pant's brilliant innings. India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to field first, giving the Indian fast bowlers a chance to take full advantage of the swing on the pitch. 

Arshdeep Singh started the victory by dismissing both the Ireland openers in the third over. The Indian fast bowlers dominated the match so much that only four Ireland batsmen - Tucker, Curtis Campher (12 off 8 balls), Delany and Little - managed to reach double figures. The Indian bowlers also conceded 15 extra runs to Ireland's total score.

 (1) Jasprit Bumrah took 2 wickets for 6 runs in three overs and got the Player of the Match award. 

(2) Rohit Sharma has become the third batsman to score 4,000 runs in T20 cricket. Before him, only Virat Kohli and Pakistan captain Babar Azam have been able to achieve this feat. 

(3) Pant also completed 1000 runs in T20 international cricket during the match. 

(4) It has become clear from the macho so far that the pitch of America helps fast bowlers. 

(5) Neither Yashasvi Jaiswal nor Sanju Samson was selected in India's playing eleven, it was surprising. 

Ireland 96/10 in 16 overs (Gareth Delany 26; Hardik Pandya 3/26) lost to India's overs (Rohit Sharma 52; Mark Adair 1/27, Ben White 1/6) by eight wickets.  

The Indian men's cricket team will play its next match against Pakistan in Group A of the T20 World Cup at the same venue on Sunday, 9th. It will be very interesting to see how the Indian team will play against the Pakistani fast bowlers on this pitch as this pitch is very supportive for fast bowlers.
