Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made a budgetary allocation of about Rs 6.22 lakh crore to the Defense Ministry. This is almost Rs one lakh crore more than the allocation for FY 2022-23. Where will the money be spent?
New Delhi. In the Union Budget 2024-25, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made a budgetary allocation of about Rs 6.22 lakh crore to the Ministry of Defense which is the highest compared to all other ministries.
There is nothing to be happy about in this because While a major part of the defense budget will be spent on salaries and pensions, an allocation of about Rs 172000 crore has been set for capital expenditure.

An allocation of about Rs 172000 crore has been fixed for capital expenditure. Out of this, an amount of more than Rs 105518 crore will be spent on the purchase of defense products from indigenous defense companies.
Where will this budget be spent?
(1) 30.66 percent for salary and allowances, (2). 27.66 percent capital expenditure. (3) Pension 22.70 percent. (4) 14.82 percent for expenditure on military operational preparedness. (5) An allocation of 4.17 per cent has been made for civilian organizations under the Ministry of Defence.
How much has this year's defense budget increased compared to the previous budget?
It is around Rs one lakh crore more than the allocation for the financial year 2022-23 and 4.79 percent more than the previous financial year 2023-24. Which is about 12.90 percent of the total budgetary estimate. But this time also, 53% of the total budget will be spent on salary allowances and pension. The total allocation for defence pension is Rs 1,41,205 crore which will be spent on monthly pension to about 32 lakh pensioners.
