The Indian cricket team will not travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Instead, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is requesting the International Cricket Council (ICC) to move its matches to Sri Lanka or Dubai, with the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Pakistan between February and March 2025.
The last virtual series between the two teams was played in India from December 2012 to January 2013. Since then, their encounters have been limited to ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup. India has not played cricket in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup due to tensions and political stability.
The BCCI has expressed its desire not to travel to Pakistan or possibly implement a hybrid model similar to the Asia Cup 2023 for the Champion Trophy, where the Indian team will play all its matches in Sri Lanka while the rest will be played in Pakistan.
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said that the Indian team will be sent to Pakistan for the tournament immediately once the central government allows it.
Economic impact?
This can cause a huge economic loss to Pakistan because if the Indian team does not travel to Pakistan, forecasters will not be interested in this Champions Trophy because India is the biggest market for cricket and if the team does not come, people in India will not watch the match. Due to this, the media rights of the Champions Trophy 2025 will be sold very less. Pakistan will have to bear a lot of loss.
Talking about the Indian team, it is very difficult to get permission from the Indian government, because in recent times the incidents of terrorist attacks have increased in Kashmir.
